Criteria
A CHP scheme generates heat and power (usually electricity) simultaneously, through a single process.
Most large conventional power stations generate electricity at 30-50% efficiency (before transmission and distribution losses) and throw away most of the heat generated in the process.
CHP generates electricity and uses the otherwise wasted heat in other industrial applications or community heating. The schemes are typically much smaller than conventional power stations and can be built to whatever size meets the customer’s demands.
Using these schemes can help achieve efficiency levels between 60-80%, saving money and reducing carbon emissions.
To claim an Enhanced Capital Allowance for CHP, businesses must first get a Certificate of Energy Efficiency. Because this additional certificate is needed, no specific products appear on the Energy Technology Product List.
